Biography

Arlene L. Johnson, PhD, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, RN, is a Registered Nurse with over 40 years of experience in nursing and educational leadership. She is a nationally certified adult and family nurse practitioner, earning her master’s degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Johnson was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2006 and earned the Dean's Award in nursing research. Dr. Johnson has authored research articles on sleep deprivation, psychomotor performance, errors among nurses who work the night shift, nursing education, and patient education. Her higher education experience includes undergraduate and graduate nursing education at Vanderbilt University, Capella, Coppin State University, Washington Adventist, Sojourner Douglas College, Oakwood University, and AdventHealth. Dr. Johnson's areas of expertise include instruction, curriculum development and implementation, course development, and educational leadership. Her clinical experience includes intensive care, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, home health nursing, emergency room nursing, internal medicine, occupational health, and indigent care. Dr. Johnson has served in nursing education as a Program Coordinator, Director, Associate Dean, and Dean. She currently serves as Dean of Nursing for AdventHealth University.
