Biography

Ms. Thompson earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Education and Behavior from the University of Florida and her Master of Occupational Therapy from AdventHealth University. Her primary area of clinical expertise is the evaluation and treatment of patients across the lifespan in the hospital setting. She began her career at Nemours Children's Hospital, where she treated patients in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient settings with an emphasis on neurological trauma, stroke, and spinal cord injury. She then moved to AdventHealth Orlando, where she specialized in acute care adult and pediatric rehabilitation in critical care settings, particularly the cardiac ICU. She has specialized training in therapeutic techniques for patients on various forms of cardiac life support, including ECMO, and neonatal intensive care. Her responsibilities within AdventHealth University’s Master of Occupational Therapy department include teaching the Geriatric and Adult practice classes, fieldwork coordination, and supervising student scholarship projects. Her primary research interests include interprofessional collaboration in the hospital, occupational therapy's role in critical care, delirium management, and educational methods to improve student preparation for work in intensive care.
