Dr. Callender has been a nursing leader and faculty at AdventHealth University (AHU) since 2014. She attended Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) with a Minor in Psychology and a Certification in Public Health Nursing. She attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Knoxville, Tennessee where she earned a Master of Public Health Certificate in Public Health Leadership. Dr. Callender later earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with an emphasis in Informatics from Walden University in Minnesota, Minneapolis. Dr. Callender currently holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in Administration with an emphasis in Education from the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at Samford University.
Currently, she is the Assistant Dean of the RN-BSN and MSN programs at AHU Department of Nursing. She has taught nursing since 2006 in both the online and face-to-face settings. Before coming to AHU Dr. Callender served at Southern Adventist University and Georgia Highlands College. She is currently an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing, Golden Key International Honor Society, and the Inaugural President of the AHU's STTI Honor Society of Nursing, Chi Upsilon Chapter. Dr. Callender is currently serving as an active board member and Archivist for STTI-Chi Upsilon. She also serves as Regional Director on the Board of the Association of Black Adventist Nurses Organization.
Dr. Callender is the lead-author of “Coordinating clinical rotations during the novel corona virus 2 Pandemic”, and “Patient-centered education in wound management: Improving outcomes and adherence” in peer-reviewed journals. She also co-authored a chapter “A perspective of servant leadership in academia” in the edited textbook “An occupational perspective on leadership: Theoretical and practical dimensions” published by Slack Incorporated.
