Biography

Dr. Whitaker has been a nursing faculty at AHU since 2010. Her degrees include: ADN – Seminole Community College, BSN – the University of Phoenix, MSN/MHA-University of Phoenix, and DNP – University of St. Augustine (Executive Leadership). Currently, she teaches Foundations of Nursing and Nursing Informatics courses for the BSN Program. Dr. Whitaker is also teaching Innovative Technologies in Healthcare, Concepts, Measurement, and Data Management in the DNP program. She serves on various committees in the Department of Nursing and the University, including the Simulation Committee. Her research interests include cardiac rehabilitation in the community setting and the impact of equitable learning on student success. She is an emergency room nurse and has worked in the emergency department for 18 years. Dr. Whitaker is passionate about securing basic needs for unsheltered adults and children and shares this passion with her students through clinical experiences. The most powerful teaching lesson she can give to her students is demonstrating empathy and kindness to everyone, especially those looked down upon by society.
