Frequently Asked Questions

-
No; our program has an outstanding track record of igniting graduates' careers, but unfortunately there is not guarantee that students will be hired upon the program's completion.
- Do I have to have all my prerequisites completed before I can apply?
-
You may apply without completed prerequisites, but we give priority to students who have fulfilled those obligations by AHU's admission deadline. You must, however, complete those classes prior to the program's start date.
- Are night or online classes available?
-
Currently, sonography core classes are completed during the day either on campus or via synchronous online learning. However, students may select evening classes to meet their general education requirements. There are also some online courses available. The majority of clinical hours are scheduled Monday- Friday however there is the possibility of some weeknights or weekend shifts.
- Can I work while in the program?
-
Due to the rigorous nature of the course work, we discourage working while participating in the program.
- Will I ever come into contact with blood?
-
Yes; sonographers assist patients who may present with bleeding or have lesions that weep. Sonographers assist physicians in performing biopsies and other invasive procedures, such as paracentesis or thoracentesis. Sonographers may also be called to the trauma room or to provide assistance with an intra-operative sonographic procedure. Part of your training will include learning universal precautions, such as how to protect yourself in a situation where contact with blood, or body fluids, is probable.
